SMS Messaging or Apps for Two-Way School News

SMS messaging program

SMS (short message service) is about to become the ideal way for schools to communicate with parents, pupils and teachers.

Oxygen8 Engage, a web-based desktop messaging tool, has just been chosen by Queensland’s Department of Education, Training and Employment to be the preferred solution for SMS messaging in Queensland schools.

That’s great news for the school administrators who can easily update parents on school events and last minute notifications, but it’s also two way. SMS inboxes can be used for students to report any incidents of bullying — or for parents to notify the school of a child’s absence. Parents can also reply to a SMS to confirm their time for parent/teacher’s interview.

Skoolbag – Another Handy Answer to School News

Currently some schools have mobile apps like “Skoolbag”, which are also helpful for various communication from the school, but sometimes parents don’t get the notifications. 90% of SMS messages are read in under a minute, so it has the highest ‘open rate’ of any communication.

If you want to turn your notifications for Skoolbag on, once installed, go to “more” — SETUP — then tick the Year your child/children are in. You’ll then get the alerts.
